Wow! Camp Crop is a success!

The planning for Camp Crop has gone on for weeks. Yesterday was the day. We got in the building a 7am and turned a beautiful banquet hall into Camp Crop for Lupus. We put up a tent , build a campfire (yes, I know it really was not real). hung butterflies from chandeliers, put out centerpiece, personalized candy bars and a box of candy for everyonw. We had so much great food. The food table was decorated with a birdbath and butterflies and nets. We set up the table and put out all of our auction items. Then Rebecca Peck, lead Fiskateer, arrived.
Other fiskateers started arriving and it was so much fun to make new friends and see old friends. Before the day was over we were 100% fiskateer.
Everyone was given a sash and there were a number of badges you earn for various things throughout the day.
The food was wonderful. Robin made madanrin orange cupcakes with handmade butterflies. She is my daughter, but I am so proud of how she helps and it really is Fiskateers that has made her the cupckae queen. When we went to Greenville they gave out books on how to make cupcakes and she has put hers to good work.
As much as I love the fun and the prizes, the auction has to be the highlight for me. All of the funds go to the Lupus Foundation of American and we made 50% more than we made last year.I have to thank everyone who donated items for the auction. We raised over $3,400.00 this year.
I want to thank all of my friends, Fiskars and anyone who helped make this a FISKA-FABULOUS day.

What would a fiskateer basket look like?

Fiskateer Gail Hutchinson just came in and donated 2 baskets to be auctioned at Camp Crop on Sat., March 27. If you want to see want a fiskateer basket would look like- well, here they are.
What a great treat someone will have enjoying these beauties in their home. They are absolutely one of a kind treasures. Her basketry skill is fabulous. I know I will be bidding on one of these!

Fiskateer Camp Crop- Only 2 more days!!!!

We are heading down the home stretch to Camp Crop. The excitement is at a high pitch!
The names tags are done, the candy ( a must for a crop ) is ready, packing is starting and we are sure that it is going to be a super duper crop. We have so many items for auction! I am elated that we can possibly beat last year's total for the amount donated to the Lupus Foundation of America.
There will be photo ops. Here are a couple more sneak peeks at auction items. A scrapbook that is already done and a dollform, Fiska-kissed!
The reason that this cause is near and dear to my heart is the death of my brother in law, Jarrell Bledsoe. He was one of the kindest, giving and compassionate people I have ever had the honor of knowing. He died from complications of Lupus almost 3 years ago.
I cannot help him, but I think he would be proud that I have chosen this cause. I hope to raise awareness and money that could possibly help find a cure for this terrible disease.
We can have a fun event and still do something that REALLY matters!

We are really starting to pull things together for Camp Crop. Today I worked on things needed to decorate and badges that people will earn Saturday. Time is growing short and I do have nerves on edge, but I am certain that we can finish things off and have a wonderful crop and raise money for the Lupus Foundation of America while, at the same time, meeting new friends and seeing others that we haven't seen for a while. Can't wait to see Rebecca!!!Our auction items list is growing. Leave a comment on any of the crop posts and someone will win a Fiskars tool after the crop. Wish me luck!
Today is a sneak peek of a frame that is loaded with pictures of the Fiskars 360th Birthday Bash, a collection of the dress forms that are finished (more to come) and a movie basket filled with movies, popcorn, tissues ( for those sad moments) and all the goodies a person could ask for to snack on.

5 days and counting down to Fiskateer Camp Crop

We are working hard at fixing our doll forms, making badges, fixing lots of auction baskets and trying to organize the decorations. This is proving to be a large, but fun, event. We will have about 60 fiskateers at Camp Crop. All proceeds from the crop is being donated to the Lupus Foundation of America.
I can't wait till it is time! The auction baskets are piling up. Want to give you another sneak peak!!! Suzie has made a red hat hot mama and we have a basket filled with fiskars, orange items and the mickey mouse ears and water bottle from the Florida Fiskars 360th birthday bash!
If you are going to be near Barboursville, WV on Sat, come and enjoy a day of eating, meeting new fiskateers, prizes, auction and, of course, scrapbooking!

I can't believe that we only have one more week until the Fiskateer Camp Crop. Preparations are in full swing and we are heading to the finish line. We will be working until the opening time to improve on all our ideas. Wish I could tell you all of our plan, but that would spoil some of the surprises we have in store. I am working on more baskets and badges today!
Then this evening I am going home to the whole family and then some extras that I can't wait to get to know better.
Well, a sneak peek today! We will be auctioning an Apronology magazine, signed by one of the artist published in the book- our own non-chocolate candy loving, Angela Daniels. She was kind enough to include a couple of tools that she used to make her apron.
Also, a Domestic Goddess basket, filled with Ed Begley cleaner and many other household goodies, including cheetah print cleaning gloves. Any woman would have to feel like a goddess with these gloves on while cleaning the toilet.
Any fiskateer will love the purse we have to auction. It is a brand new Fiore, by Isabella Fiore. Orange is the color, soft leather gathered into a rose and if that wasn't enough- a lime green lining.

Wow, what a blast we are having just getting ready. When all the fiskateers are here and we are having so much fun- that will be super. Truly, I really am already so happy that I know we are going to raise a significant amount of money to donate to the Lupus Foundation of America.
Camp Crop will be the crop that no one will ever forget. Last year we had a super fiska-fabulous day and this year is going to be even better.
The charity auction is going to have a large selection of things this year. The Fiskars basket and lime green Rachel Ray cookware are among the items. I will be posting more every day!

10 Days and counting till Fiskateer Camp Crop

Only 10 more days until the Fiskateer Camp Crop in Barboursville. We have received lots more items for the charity auction. While on a Fiskateer chat the other evening, I won a small collage piece and book by Roni Johnson. The framed piece is absolutely amazing with detail and dimension. She also sent a heart and wings necklace and a small decorated box.
We have around 55 coming so far. Rebecca Peck, a lead Fiskateer, will be in attendance. The fee is $30.00, all of which is donated to the Lupus Foundation of America. We will crop, eat, have fun, and have a charity auction that evening to raise even more for the Lupus Foundation.
Everyone is helping me make this the best crop we have ever planned. The food will be wonderful. If you need further information call the Scrapbook Page at 304-733-9414 (11am-5:30pm).

Three Weeks and counting! That is how long it is until Camp Crop! One of the favorite times of the day is the charity auction.
Candy Rosenberg, director of education for Graphic 45 has sent two items that will be on the block that evening.
Another dress form has been done. If you love the americana style this doll is for you.
The girls and I are planning and trying to organize a little tomorrow. There will be more orange stuff that one person can imagine. Do you know they have orange Peeps at Target. A box for every table. Green and orange tic tacs, yes, they have them at Target.
The weekend is coming, but I work tomorrow. Might be time to do Monday's kits. Sunday is grandson and kids day. Also, I LOVE Nascar!

Fiskateers make a difference

I was featured in this month's issue of Scrap n art, an online magazine that has fabulous articles and layouts in it.
I credit my mother with making me the person I am today. She taught me to care for others. Most of the article deals with the charity events that I have participated in since become a fiskateer.
When someone asks what is Fiskateers, telling them it is an online crafting community is only the tip of the iceberg. I have done several events to raise money for different charities. I have enjoyed every one.

Dare to Care

Scrapbookers, as an overall community,

are a caring group. Whenever there is a

need, whether it is providing pre-made

scrapbook pages to sick children in the

hospital, cards for US troops overseas or

scrapbook supplies for women in a shelter,

scrapbookers are ready to do their share.

Maxine Hodges is one such scrapbooker

who is always ready to do as much as

she can to help those around her and has

made her scrapbooking passion an integral

part in her charitable contributions.

Elena Etcheverry of Scrapbook Royalty

said, “Maxine is one of those scrapbookers

who uses her affi liation with the hobby

to make a difference.”

Maxine began scrapbooking when she was invited

to a home party in 1994. Maxine said, “I

collected many tools and materials, but then

the newness wore off and I did not pick it back

up until 1997. My son got married and I had

grandsons and the passion was back and has

only grown over the years.” Also in 1994, Maxine

began working at her local scrapbook store

and soon became the manager. She was employed

there for over 10 years when in 2006,

the owners decided to move to North Carolina.

“On a Tuesday, I was the manager and by

Saturday, I was the owner of The Scrapbook

Page and More in Barboursville, WV. I love my

job and love to come to work everyday,” said

Maxine.

The scrapbook store provides a perfect venue

for Maxine to combine her favorite hobby and

her charity work. She has held Scrap Pink crops

and now holds a yearly crop in support of the

National Lupus Foundation, the charity which

is closest to her heart. “My brother-in-law, Jarrell

Bledsoe, was one of the most compassionate

and giving people I have ever known. He

suffered from this disease for fi ve years before

his death. The disease presents itself so differently

in each person, it is hard to diagnose and

even harder to treat. I could not help him, but

I think he would be proud I have taken on this

cause to help other families who are dealing

with it,” said Maxine.

Maxine’s involvement in charity work is not

limited to her activities at the store. She is also

an active member of the Charity Fiskamittee of

the Fiskateers. Fiskateers are Fiskars Crafting

Ambassadors. They have an international online

community and members also get together

for real life local events. Maxine is currently

the 2009 Fiskateer of the Year. Through the

Fiskateers, Maxine has been involved in Sock

It To Poverty (collecting socks for the homeless),

Cards for the Troops and collecting food

for her local food pantry. The Fiskateers have

also become involved with Maxine in her work

for the National Lupus Foundation. “The First

Annual Crop for Lupus was held in 2008. I really

did not know exactly what I was doing, but

the crop and a corresponding auction raised

$600.00. I was so proud, but determined that

the next event would be so much bigger and

better. And it was! In 2009, Rebecca Peck, a

lead Fiskateer, agreed to come to the crop and

the attendance started getting so big, I knew

my shop would not hold everyone. The crop

fee was donated to the National Lupus Foundation.

My landlord was kind enough to let

me use an empty space close to my

store. We decorated walls and tables

and even made up a Fiskateer song.

Rebecca did a make and take and

we scrapbooked and enjoyed meeting

so many new people. We turned

the town orange (Fiskateer color)! We

had an auction and raised $2400 for my charity! We are currently in the process of planning for

the 2010 crop,” said Maxine.

To Maxine, there is no greater satisfaction than helping others. “As a child, my mother taught

me the meaning and satisfaction of doing for others. We made dinner for my aunt, who had cancer,

every weekend and spent every Saturday evening with her. We always collected for Unicef.

During high school, I was in service clubs which collected money for charitable causes. In Junior

Womans Club, I helped raise funds for a new volunteer fi re department in our small community

and as PTA president, I raised funds and got grants to build a playground at our new elementary

school. Since childhood, I have learned the gratifi cation of giving and helping others,” said

Maxine.

The altered dress form- Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend is just one of the several dress forms that will be auctioned. Candy Rosenburg and Roni Johnson will have creations that will be auctioned to help raise money in honor of my brother in law, Jarrell Bledsoe. He died October, 2007 from this terrible disease.

I have been working on a project for about a week now. I had a paper mache dress form and decided to cover her in silver and rhinestone. I am a girl who loves bling. There can never be too much!
I went and picked up 10 dress forms and gave them out for others to decorate in their styles. If the police had stopped me, I could have been charged with bringing bodies in bags across state lines.
We will be auctioning them on March 27 at our charity event, Camp Crop. All proceeds from the day will donated to the Nation Lupus Foundation of America. These donations are made to honor Jarrell Bledsoe, my brother in law. He lost his battle to lupus Oct. 17, 2007.
This project was hard because I would never have believed how much jewelry it would take to cover it. Thank goodness for ebay and shopgoodwill.com. I made many purchases to cover her assets.

So many projects, so little time

I am working on 2 special projects and making next weeks class today!! The class will probably not happen as they are call for ANOTHER snow storm Monday. Sometimes I feel that there is not enough chocolate to get me through days like today! I burnt my finger with the glue gun and the paper transfer, which should be so easy will not work in my printer. The transfer is essential to finishing a little but elegant project. I feel like time is not my friend today.
Fiddle-Dee-Dee, Tomorrow is another day! Also, as Scarlett said-I want to go home! It is not Tara, but it is warm and comforting!

Obviously, I have too much time on my hands

I don't know how to explain that I sat for 7 hours yesterday and watched a nascar race. Yes, there were two red flags that allowed me to cook a Valentine's dinner for my husband. However, I sat and watched track workers patch a hole on the track. I could go out any day and watch the dept. Of highways do that. Yes, I admit it! I love Nascar. Carl Edwards and Jr. are my favorites. Just ask my husband who heard me screaming for Jr to press the gas pedal harder at the end. I do assume if he could have, he would. Plus, I realize that talking to the drivers on TV probably isn't going to help. I try my best to help them. I find myself pushing my gas pedal leg down hard. I hold my breath when the cars are driving tightly together.
Well, that was my Sunday. Jr did come in second and Carl was 7th, I think. Maybe I did help them.
Well, will probably do the same thing next week.

Webster's Pages class for Monday, Feb 15

This is the class that we will work on on Monday. Webster's Pages is also one of my favorite papers. I used the front and back of the mannequin paper. I love to layer paper with Fiskars adhesive strips. I cut the awning and flowers and birds that are in the three corners of the second page and popped them up for dimension. I used the middle of the awning paper and cut two ivory mats. I love to layer the mats so I added the mauve and teal mats. I adhered the mats. The bottom mat on the second page is placed after cutting the mannequin and placing some of the picture underneath.
The title is printed on the paper- Life is beautiful!

A Winter Wonderland!

For the last three days we have had an abundant amount of snow. Like so many others on the east coast we have come to a stand still. However, my stand still includes a 7 year old grandson who is out of school. I have not opened my shop and we have played and ate all day. The Wii is a blessing. I laugh as I watch him play. He moves , jumps and kicks while watching the Star War lego characters move. We are going to make snow ice cream tonight. This is something I remember my mother and grandmother doing for us. For those of you who do not know what this is:
Mix in a large bowl
about a cup of evaporated milk
1/2 sugar
a dash of vanilla.
Take the bowl outside to a CLEAN snow pile , leaving any area of yellow totally alone, and spoon snow in and mix to a consistanecy of homemade ice cream.
I had planned on starting my anti-resume to apply for fiskateer lead. I want to do my very best to achieve a goal that would be a dream come true. However, on a snowy day with a grandson, family comes first.
I have the rest of the month to apply, but these special days with Ben are priceless!

A valentine layout

I love to layer papers and mix up patterns that some people might call busy! The class tonight takes only paper. No expensive embellishments. We make our own so many times by cutting out design in the paper and popping up using Fiskars foam adhesive strips.
I used Making Memories paper. I cut out the middle of one of the squares to make the heart mats. I, also cut the quilt patterned paper into strips to weave on the first page. Then, we cut hearts and the title out of papers. Voila! A beautiful Valentine layout with just paper.

Why are you watching the Superbowl?

The kick off is almost upon us. Millions of people around the world are watching the Superbowl. I really don't care who wins. I will probably do something crafty or possibly cook my husband dinner before he gets home from work. The announcers keep telling me how millions will be watching. Now my question is this to the women who are watching. Are you watching because you have a true love of the game? Are you wtching because it was a good reason you could get the husband out to meet with friends? You are maybe watching to see the new commercials (that's me). Or perhaps, you are not watching at all.
I used to be a diehard football fan, but in the last few years I have become a Nascar fanatic. My super bowl is next Sunday-the Daytona 500!
If I get 20 post on this before the game ends, I will send someone some happy mail. I will offer one of the new spring Fiskars limited edition punches.

Crop Fun on Fiskateers

I had the pleasure of being asked to be one of the crop hostess on Fiskateers while the leads were at CHA. I made the schedule for 13 fiskateers who got to be a hostess and present a challenge each hour on Saturday.
Then, I was the hostess for Monday and Tuesday. It was such a total blast to think up challenges and see all the different ways people created layouts using the same criteria.
The most interesting challenge of the day was a roll call of who was on the message boards and where they were from. We had 26 states represented, 6 from Canada, 2 from New Zealand and 2 from Austrialia.
I held a chat two evenings. I provided the prizes for the Saturday chat and all of the other prizes were provided by Fiskars. I love the chats. We can get in some of the craziest conversations and by the time you answer, we are on another subject.
I was a bit sad when Tuesday night came because my time had come to an end. What a wonderful time I had.

New products!

I have been so busy over the holidays that I have not updated like I should.
Here, at the Scrapbook Page, we are full with lots and lots of brands new products.
Of course, we have everything you need to make great Christmas layouts, but that is only the beginning.
I have Bo Bunny, Snowy Serenade and Frosted from Fancy Pants.
Today I received the 3 newest lines from Graphic 45. They have become one of my favorite companies. Their papers make beautiful vintage pages, but still can make a layout for something that happened yesterday.
We also have Valentines lines from Bo Bunny, Fancy Pants and Making Memories.
As many of you know, CHA ( an industry show) is starting in a few days. We need room to put new product.
On Sat. January 16 everything in the store in on sell. Come help open up some shelfs for new products. Everything is 20 % off.

Maxine is our Fiskateer of the Year and I wanted to feature her and her craftiness. When I asked Maxine if she would like to complete a project for this on-line crop, she created this beautiful project! Here’s a little bit about Maxine, and her gorgeous project:

I am Maxine Hodges, Fiskateer #2981. I have lived in West Virginia my whole life. I have been married to my husband, Ronnie, for 38 years and we have 2 children and 2 grandsons. My mother was a crafter and passed that love on to me. I have cross stitched, macramed, dough art and painted wood. In 1996, scrapbooking became my passion. I took classes and went to all the lss crops. Five years ago the store was sold and I applied to work for the new owner. I was the buyer, manager and janitor. Over 2 years ago I purchased the Scrapbook Page and I am still the buyer, manager and janitor.
In 2006 I learned about Fiskateers at Cha Chicago. At the time all I knew was I got a free pair of scissors. It was a year later before I learned there was a message board, blog and gallery. The rest is history. I have made so many new crafter friends through Fiskateers and have traveled to Hershey, Nashville, Greenville and Orlando to participate in events where I got to meet many of my online friends.

I have two highlights of being a Fiskateer. The first was when I hosted my second annual charity crop for the National Lupus Foundation, which is a cause near and dear to my heart. We raised over $2,000. Rebecca came, as well as fiskateers from Richmond, Cincinnati and Michigan. Can’t wait till the 3rd annual.

The second was being names Fiskateer of the Year 2009 in Orlando this year. I was so surprised! My Fiskateer journey has been an experience that I will never forget. Truly, Fiskateers rock!

I am so glad that Kelly Jo asked me to do this. This was a joy to work with pictures of my mom.

Both of these pictures were taken in 1948. They are her engagement picture and a picture of mom and dad on their wedding day.

This project took 2 pieces of Webster’s Pages paper, a frame and a canvas.
1. I began by painting the frame teal and the canvas beige. I used a glimmer mist on the canvas.

2. I then starting cutting out the flowers that would be put around the frame, using one of my favorite new tools- the retractable craft knife. It takes time to cut such small details, but the effort is well wroth the effect.

3. I cut pictures and papers to fit in the different areas of the frame. I used molding paste and a heart stencil to make the heart. I then painted it gold.

4. I used glue dots and adhered the layers of flowers around the edge of the frame.
5. I cut a one inch strip of the paper (used the back side) and used the scalloped and the leave it to weaver punch. I pulled a piece of beige fringe ribbon through it and adhered to the bottom of the frame.

6. I got gold mesh ribbon and peacock feathers, glued under the left bottom corner of the frame and then hot glued the frame to the canvas.
7. Finished up the project by adhering cream flowers and a Websters Pages’ cameo.

autumn fun

This weekend I had the grandsons for a couple days. We went to the Charleston City Market and picked out pumpkins. Sam went straight for the little pumpkins and Ben for the large ones.
On Sunday Ben and I raked a large pile of leaves. Then Robin brought Sam out. Sam didn't really like to jump in, but Ben was thrilled. When they would spread out he would rake them back up.
These are things that I did with my children and I did as a child. I took lots of pictures. Days like this are priceless.

The cool fall air is here and all of the fall festivals have been fun. Now to scrapbooking them. We have lots of great fall papers from My Little Yellow Bicycle, Moxxie, and Bo Bunny(which just got here today).

This is the time to think about those albums you want to make for Christmas gifts. don't stress yourself out and wait till the last minute.

I have so many new products that I couldn't list them all, but here goes. Lots of new glimmer mist, the Halloween glimmer mist kit from tattered angels, Delelah from Bo Bunny, the stamps to make christmas tags from Tim Holtz, sports and hunting paper and diecuts, new DC and Las Vegas papers, and scrapbooking papers, brads and stickers to scrapbook all those scrapevents you go to. This is only a partial list.
Of course we have all new Making memories, Fany Pants, Graphic 45 and Websters Pages Christmas lines.

Halloween is this week and we have lines from Best Creation, Basic Grey. Fancy Pants and more.

We will be closed on November 26 for Thanksgiving. I hope that each of you will reflect on the things that you give thanks for (and take alot of pictures). During the holidays, I sometimes get so busy with preparations that I forget to take the pictures. Make sure that someone is taking pictures and that you are in some of the pictures. I notice as I look through my scrapbook that I am not there much. Just a couple of tips to make your scrapbook real.

A Graphic 45 project that I finished

Several of us at he shop loved the Graphic 45 paper lines so much that we challenged each other to come up with a project. I just wanted to take a minute to show you mine. I had an old chair in the garage that I knew would come in handy someday. Ben and I cleaned it up and I got my husband to make sure it was sturdy and make a new seat platform.
Last Sunday I cut strips of most Domestic Goddess and some Fashionista and mod podged onto the wooden areas of the chair. I used a pillow form and upholstered the seat Tuesday morning. I really love the finished product. Have an old chair or table sitting around? Make it new again. You will be as proud of your project as I am of mine.

Candy Rosenberg came to crop with us

Last night Candy Resenberg, Director of Marketing and Education for Graphic 45 papers, came to crop with us. There were 17 enthusiastic Graphic 45 lovers who came to meet Candy and her mom. We learned several new tecniques by just watching her work. She showed us how to make a new paper flower that will be used in future layouts that is simple, but very appropriate for use with Graphic 45 or any papers.
She raffled the best prize ever- herself. Melissa Givens won and gave 3 photos to Candy, who made a fantastic layout with them- also proving that you don't have to have vintage photos to use Graphic 45. It lends itself to all types of themes and layouts.
We had challenged ourselves to come up with secret projects that used Graphic 45 papers. We had beautiful layoutsm cards, a rubick cube type project and a chair.
Sue Bennett won the door prize- an altered canvas made by Candy.
What a delightful evening!

Fiskateer of the Year 2009.

At the Fiskars Birthday Bash in Epcot, I was honored to be named Fiskateer of the year. I should have blogged this weeks ago, but life has got in the way of many things I should do.
Mickey Mouse was introduced and all of us who had run with our cameras to get pictures (you are dealing with 60 or so scrapbookers) was asked to sit down. Then we were asked to all stand up. The fiskateer leads all stood in a row and asked questions. If you had done these things they asked you stayed standing up. Have you met the Hershey Kiss, yes. Have you gone more than 100 miles to a crop, of course. Have you been on a party bus, will never forget that one, yes. Have you welcomed new fiskateers, yes. You get the idea. It took a while until there was just me and one other standing and my heart was racing because I had suddenly realized what was happening. Have you ever held a charity crop for Lupus. It was me.
I was Fiskateer of the Year 2009.
This moment will always stand out as one of the highlights of my life. There are so many great Fiskateers.
I was awarded large personalized scissors and a tote with my name on it by Mickey Mouse in a tuxedo and Suzanne Fanning. I just was so surprised I wish someone would have told me to shut my mouth. I cannot describe how proud I was at that moment and the love I felt from my fellow fiskateers.
I have received so many emails and pms congratulating me. I thank each and everyone of you.
The one thing I must add is that I could not have done all the things I do without the help of my merry band-Mary, Sue, Gail, Laura, Rose and Suzie. Also, my daughter, Robin has helped me immensely throughtout this last year.
Basically, I want to say- Thank You! Fiskateers Rock!

Meet and Greet with Candy Rosenburg from Graphic 45

Well, they have just posted on the Graphic 45 website that Candy Roseburg of Oregon will be here for a meet and greet at our crop to be held on September 17th. Graphic 45 came out with some of the most impressive papers at CHA. I am already getting... ready to reorder the Christmas Line. Can you believe that! A Christmas line that is selling out in Sept. It is that good. Sign up soon!
Several of us have challenged ourselves to come up with projects from Graphic 45. We will have them completed that night. There will be several Graphic 45 ideas that anyone may want to scraplift!

Back from Orlando

We're back from Orlando and wait until you see all the great stuff we have ordered for The Scrapbook Page. My credit card got hot for awhile there.
Orders are already coming in the door. This week we received the vintag Graphic 45 Domestic Goddess (NOT) and the Christmas line. I have never had such a pretty Christmas paper line as this is.
The My Little Yellow Bicycle fall line is exquiste. This is the most sought after fall paper right now. We already also have a fall line from Moxxie (cute scrawcrow and litlle squirels.
The scrapbooking stickers, rubons and papers from Moxxie have been a big hit. I am already on my second shipment.
I have got the corner, border punches from Fiskar. If you have not seen these, come in and we will show you the great results you can get from them.
We have clear stamps, limited edition glimmer mist and gatebooks from Tattered Angels.

I AM FISKATEER OF THE YEAR 2009

Today I attended the 360th birthday party for Fiskars at Epcot. When we walked into the room we were greeted by the leads. We saw tables full of snacks and Mickey Mouse ears-in Fiskars orange!

We visited and then went on a savanger hunt in the park. The winners were given Fiskars bucks. Once back inside we got a visit from Mickey Mouse-and played another game. We stood by our chairs and leads asked questions. If you answered yes, you remained standing, if you answered no you sat down. The game continued and I soon realized that I was one of only two people standing. When they asked if you had ever decorated an empty Quisnos with flowers I knew that I had won!

Susanne Fanning and Mickey presented me with an engraved pair or gigantic Fiskar scissors and the title "Fiskateer of the Year-2009"!

I was so surprised and proud that I was chosen for this honor! It means so much to me. I couldn't have done it without my Merry Band and was glad that they were there to share it with me.

The Fiskateers Butterfly Project

As a member of the Fiskateer Charity Committee, I was pleased to write the blog for our upcoming project.
We are going to be making 2 dimensional butterflies to help commerate the children that were lost and imprisoned during the Holocaust.
If you have not heard of this project please read. It will make you weep and want to create!
The Butterfly Project

1,500,000 innocent children perished in the Holocaust. “Children were neither just the mute and traumatized witnesses to this war, nor merely it’s innocent victims; the war invaded their imaginations and the war raged inside them.” ~ Nicholas Stargaught

In an effort to remember these children, the Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies.

These butterflies will comprise a breath-taking exhibition for all to remember. During the next 2 years we have the opportunity to create as many handmade butterflies as possible. You can do this individually or have a buttefly crop as we are going to do.

The Holocaust Museum requirements are:

Butterflies should not be larger than 8 inches by 10 inches.
Two dimensional submissions are preferred.
Glitter should not be used.
No food products (macaroni, candy or other perishables)
Fiskateers should create their butterflies, place their name and number on them, upload to their galleries and then contact Maxine via email at hodgewv@hotmail.com to obtain her mailing address. Maxine has graciously offered to count and send the butteflies to the museum. Thank you Maxine.

Let’s recreate the beauty lost in their imaginations in honor of these children.”

With such a big and loving community of fiskateers I know we can make a huge difference in remembering these little ones who were lost but not forgotten.

Feeding Our Communities

The fiskateer food drive is still in progress. Several crops and stores are collecting food and several of us will be at drop off areas on June 13th. This evening I am teaching a class that I scraplifted from Cheryl on an episode of Fiskars TV. I love the plummage stamp, the glimmer mists and the real peacock feathers. I used to would not have tried something like this until the clear stamps and the stamp press from Fiskars. The stamp press is a must for a project like this.
I love to scrapbook, but sometimes it is fun to do something out of the box like this. Thanks to Cheryl and Fiskars TV.

Sweet Meet and Greet in Greenville

Road Trip!!!!! We jumped in the cars and headed 6 hours to Greenville, SC to attend the Sweet Meet and Greet at the Brains On Fire building. We were greted by all of the Fiskateers leads- Rebecca, Angela, Wendy Jo, Kelly Jo and Cheryl. Also in Attendance was Suzzane from Fiskars, Stephanie (legend) and Carrie from Brians on Fire. There were also many fiskateers that I had not had the pleasure of meeting in person before.
We decorated cupcakes (not going to be my second job), beaded scissor charms and cupcake charms.
However, the best thing about the evening was just talking to people. They gave door prizes and goodie bags for everyone. Fiskars always knows how to throw a party.
We truly enjoyed our short time in Greenville. We ate at "Smoke on the Water"-outside in a summer like breeze. We had fried green tomatoes (yum), pulled pork, and okra. Greenville was a beautiful city.

One of the challenges in this economy is that charities are also suffering. The Charity Fiskamittee has decided that we can make a difference within our own communities by collecting food. As an added bonus, you make alter and decorate your bags to collect food in. I bet if we even clean our food cupboards out we could donate many items that would be greatly apppreciated by the people at the foodbanks. Several of us are setting up times at various food bank and we hope that fiskateers all over the country will help make a difference. A few nonperishable food items from Fiskateers will make a large difference. I have designated that on NSD at my shop we are collecting food and the person who brings the most will win a $40. gift certificate.
I am challenging everyone to help. Check out my challenge on fiskateers to win a rak at the end of the month by decorating a bag.
This a challenge that we can all spend a little and make a large impact.

Fiskateers, Cropping and Charity

My sincere thanks to fiskars for having Fiskateers. Rebecca is truly a fabulous Fiskars ambassador. By having Rebecca at our Barboursville crop, we were able to have almost all fiskateers at our 2nd annual charity Crop for Lupus. Rebecca gave up time with her family and drove to Barboursville. Her visit was listed on the Fiskateer calender. We had Fiskateers from WV, Virginia, Ohio and Michigan. I truly think and hope that everyone had a wonderful time. The laughter and the atmosphere in the room was fun and contagious. I have never planned anything that I have been prouder of. Now, I had much help. My friends are priceless and my second family.
We not only had a wonderful time, but raised over 2,000.00 for the National Lupus Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who came. Thanks to my landlord who gave me a huge space so that we could have so many people. I am reflecting today on the crop. We just got home from cleaning and carrying tables and chairs back to about everyone I know. Today I feel blessed that I did something my brother in law, who died of lupus, would be proud that I did. Truthfully, that is the thing that makes me happier than anything.

We turned Barboursville orange

We had a wonderful time at our crop yesterday. Rebecca Peck, lead fiskateer, and such a wonderful, funny person was our guest host. I could not thank her enough for coming here to Barboursville on this special day.
We had so many fiskateers and encourage them to wear orange. That orange glow that the space station probaly reported was us.
Many thanks to everyone who helped. They are so many of my special friends who helped me make this event a success. I love you guys- Sue, Mary,Gail, Laura and Suzie.
We cropped, laughed, ate, and had wonderful surprises. Groovy Deb and Sweepnut,Denise surprised me by registering under other names. YEAH! They came all the way from Richmond. Mardi, whom I dearly love, came from Michigan and a new frien, Sherri came from Ohio. Old friendships were renewed and new friendships formed.
This was our 2nd annual charity crop for the National Lupus Foundation. the crop fee and the auction will allow us to donate around $2,000.00 in honor Jarrell Bledsoe, my brother in law, who died in Oct, 2007. Mary was such a great auctionner and everyone was so generous.
What fun!
We had an orangest contest. Many took this very serious and you will see by the photo. Sue, super fiskateer won,but so many others had fun participating. Many thanks to Robin, Melissa, Laura and Suzie who all put much effort into this fun contest.
I will blog more about this later, but thank you to all of you that came or helped in any way. I had a BLAST!

Happy Crop Day

Hey everyone, this is not Maxine but her daughter, Robin. I am writing to say that Mom has been so busy planning her biggest crop yet that she has had no time for anything else. Luckily today is the day for what I call the Crop for Lupus, meaning all money made is going to the Lupus foundation. She has so many people attending we even had to find a different location her shop is not big enough for the people and the paper, thanks to the owner of the River Place Shopping Center for letting us use the former Quiznos location around the corner. Mom and her friends have been working like crazy to decorate and the make the place look Fiska-friendly. I have been running back and forth and thought I would share some pictures of what is happening. More to come later... enjoy

Vacation is over and now I am back to the real world. Why do vacation weeks go so much faster than work weeks. I had an exciting and wonderful vacation, but there is no place better than home. (Although I did like the warm temperatures of Hawaii) Well, I will have to begin scrapping the 350 pictures we took last week.

Hawaii at its best

We have finished the events planned in Hawaii. WOW!!!! That sums it up.
I found a new friend, Lauren, on this trip. We had both both some scrapbook stuff and we worked on a page for her ann a project for Kelly Jo's challenge for me. She had more old stuff to work with and some of the older paper which had a pet theme. I don't have a cat, so I made a cigar box lid for her. Scrapbookers find each other everywhere and are always so friendly.
On Thursday I went on an off road pinztrek adventure. we went in a strange looking vehicle and went through the rainforest on the north end of the island. We saw beautiful Kohala coastline sites and waterfalls that you had to walk to see. It was totally fantastic. we saw the coast, the rain forest, waterfalls, and one place where you looked to one side and saw the ocean and the edge on the island with the ocean on the other side.
Friday I went to the business meeting and we heard from Will Steger, an adventure and scientist. He studies the ice melt at the artic. His talk was very interestesting.
Then, the final speaker was former President George H. Bush. Regardless of your politics, he was a very engaging speaker. He looked frail, but his speech was wonderful.
That evenirng the sunset was a show on its own. Our dinner that night consisted of the specialities of all 8 restaurants on the resort. At 8 they put on a fabulous fireworks display followed by a concert by The Steve Miller band. What a couple of days.

We got up yesterday and went on a 2 hour helicopter ride over the active volcano, beautiful valleys that have waterfalls, thousands of feet tall, and a coastline that was exquiste. We got in our little red mustang convertible and drove to Kona. this coast town is so historic and looked like a postcard.
We had a 6 course dinner last night and Sinbad then entertained (Wayne Brady cancelled only one day before). He was 10 times funnier than I expected.
We got up this morning and went on a whale watching tour. We saw hundreds and some very close. They would not hold still for me to get a "perfect" shot, but it was great. While having buffet lunch on the terrace we saw a sea turtle. I jumped up, climbed down the bank and fed it. Yes I have the picture.
We have shopped this afternoon and are getting ready for another night out.
Supervalu really know how to throw parties.

In Hawaii, finally.

It took 24 hours to get to Hawaii. The weather was terrible yesterday morning and eveywhere we went we had delays, but we made it.
Today we rented a little red mustang and drove from Kona to Hilo, stopping at every scenic overlook (and some that weren't) and had a wonderful day. This evening Supervalu (my husband's wholesale company that brought us here) had a wonderful dinner and luau. They even have a kodak kiosk where we can print out free pictures. They brought a beach bag full of every snack known to man (chocolate, twizzlers, reeses and much more)
Tomorrow morning we are taking a helicopter ride over many of the beautiful waterfalls and the erupting volcano. I am posting a picture of what I can see when I wake up in the morning-right from the bed.

We're leaving on a jet plane......

My daughter, Robin, and I are leaving for Hawaii Sunday. I am so excited. We are going to go on a helicopter ride and see the volcano erupting and beautiful waterfalls. We are going on a ride throught the rainforest in a pinztrek. I hope we go whale watching and I know we are driving around the island next Monday. Wayne Brady is the entertainment one night, a luau , The Steve Miller band, and the elder President Bush and Barbara are speaking one morning. This will be a trip of a lifetime and I am thrilled to take Robin along and share these things with her.

I have spent all week putting out new product. My back is killing me. We got 3 Notions orders, Basic Grey, Cosmo Cricket, My Mind's Eye Penny Lane, Fiskars (yes, we got all the scallop punches and stamps), Heidi Grace, Making Memories Garden Patch , Prima and I can't even remember what else. I'm sure I am leaving something out.
I have had to take product off the shelf to make room for new. Agood problem to have.
I am so excited that we are having a crop tomorrow and there will be alot of Fiskateers. This group is my second family, customers, and Fiskateers. We take trips together, celebrate birthdays together and scrap together. What more could you want.

The Sock Fairy came to The Scrapbook Page

Fiskateers is more than just winning prizes and showing our layouts. It is challenging each other to be better people. It is caring and sharing. Last month Fiskteers issued a challenge to each of us to collect socks. These socks are being donated to homeless shelters. I was surprised that I had never thought about collecting so simple as socks- a basic need. I jumped on this challenge and made a hamper to collect the socks. I even donated 10% of sales for a week to buy extra socks. I organized a sock crop and lo, and behold, the sock fairy made a visit. I am not above making a fool of myself for a good cause.
I am very proud that we ended up collecting 310 pairs of socks. That is 3100 toes that will be warmer.
I enjoy the fun part of fiskateers, but this felt very rewarding.

Cropping On New Years Eve

On New Years Eve my lss had a crop party. We had 14 ladies who came to crop and have a great time. There was a lot of silliness, but nothing was consumed stronger than straight Dr. Pepper. We scrapped from 11am till the next year. We had a contest where everyone used the same paper and it was judged by a poor customer who happened in and we ask her to judge and take about 10 pictures (everyone brought their cameras. She didn't mind. She is a scrapbooker , so she understood. We had homemade chili and many other snacks.
And before you think that we played and didn't scrapbook - there was between 50-60 pages completed.
Fun was had by all.

Christmas is over. People came for breakfast and then my husband's family came for a turkey dinner, with all the fixings. It is a lot of people, but then I think that I am blessed to have all of both of our families so close that we can celebrate together. I am exhausted, but happy. Just spending time with the grandsons all day was a treat.
I must admit that I have decided that I am addicted to Fiskateers. I guess as far as addictions go, that one is pretty good. I stayed up and chatted with fiskateers from all over the world until Christmas was official on the east coast. I found time to check the computer several times on Christmas, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
I not only enjoy my Fiskars tools, I love my fiska-friends. Unfortunely, Santa didn't bring any scalloped punches. Maybe I was on the naughty list.

My Scrapbook Friends are The BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We cropped last night and we were exchanging gifts. These ladies are a support group like no other. There are very few times in my life that I am speechless, but last night was one of those times. As you know, I own a small independent scrapbook shop. My friends, collectively, gave me a certificate for $200. for an advertisment in our local paper. If that was not enough, one of my friends knows that Gone With The Wind has always and still remains my favorite movie ever. She gave me a very old edition of the book. These items among others. What a blessed person I am to have friends and customers like these.

This Christmas season seems to be flying by. I have shopped, worked, went to look at the lights, made cookies, decorated the tree and am starting to get ready for Christmas Day. That day is so busy, but I love having all our family over to share in the dinner we fix with love. Turkey, mashed potatoes, baked beans, green beans, gravy, rolls, deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, cranberry salad and a lot of dessert. I always think is fun to find out what other families have to celebrate the day. I have a friend that make macaroni salad to go with the turkey. We will have around 30 for the the evening meal. I know that I will be busy, but that just shows how blessed we are.
We have a large family nearby.
We have a warm home to which we invite them
We are blessed to have food to eat.
I feel particularly blessed to have my daughter, son, daugther in law and the 2 grandsons will spend the day with us.

3 generations of dolls.

I did a layout this weekend that I absolutely love. I love the paper, but most of all I love the subject matter. The paper is Graphic 45. I cut the tree, teapot, girl and dollhouse from one paper and attached to the other. I have my mom's doll. My mom was killed in a 1970 car accident. My grandmother still had her bisque doll and gave it to me. When I was a kid, we were probably poor, but I didn't know it because everyone around us probably was too. All of our dads worked at Carbide and so all the kids had about the same. I really wanted a REAL barbie. ( thankfully, I have gotten over that obsession). I got a doll that my mom made homemade clothes for. she has a homemade Pollyanna outfit. My daughter's doll is a Cabbage Patch. She had several, but I like this one because it has a sleeper on that she wore as a child.

I did this layout to showcase our love for Ben, our oldest grandson. It was taken on his 4th birthday. He is such a Thomas lover, so that was the party theme. I also caught a great shot of him with my husband, Ronnie. He was making faces in the shine of the bumper of my car and thought he was so funny. He and Sam are the sweetest little boys in the world.

My grandparents

I just finished doing a layout with my grandparents. I am trying to go back and do some heritage pages. Many people believe that they should be done on dark papers. I think the black and whites look good on pastel and rich colors. We would have family reunions each year at my great grandparents, who lived in a wooden log house ( no running water or inside plumbing). We still loved it. All the families would gather and make tables out of sawhorses and wood. It would last all day. Those were the good old days (probably 1950's). That's me peeking out beside my mama on page 1.

10 Random things about me!

Just thinking of 10 random things you might not know about me;
1. I am married and have 2 children, a daughter in law and the 2 greatest grandsons in the whole world.
2 I am lucky to have all my family, including 2 brothers and their families all together in one town. ( Love the big family gatherings)
3. I have always been creative. I have done cross stitch, dough art, painted arts and craft items for 7 years as a job, once made 300 green macrame' brooms for a Woman's Club sale(yes, they all sold) and now have a passion for scrapbooking
4. I am blessed to have many friends who are like a second family
5. Love to see what creative projects others do (I think you could give 10 people identical items and you would get 10 totally different results.
6. I love to travel
7. I have never met a chocolate I didn't like
8. One of my favorite places in the world is on my deck -swinging.
9. I love to meet new people and learn about them.
10. I have learned to enjoy normal. When you have experienced losses in your life, you come to realize that it is the normal everday things that you miss most. There is nothing wrong with a normal day.

The only thing I got done in Nashville

I only completed one layout at Nashville. The fun and meeting people took up most of my time. We had the best time with the party bus, talking to everyone and making cards for veterans in the area (I loved that).

This layout is my daughter's first Christmas. I know, she is 32 now, but after she moved into her own home, I am wanting to remember these times. I used Basic Grey paper, flowers and Prima bling. I love the bling!

Nashville was turned orange for a day!!!!

Saturday was a day to be remembered always. Fiskars and Rebecca hosted the Nashville Fiskafrienzy. WOW!!!!! That sums it up. The day started out with Suzzanne signing in Fiskateers who came early (would I do that?) because we were so anxious. As the door opened Patty passed out the first of many gifts to each person. Rebecca got the party started and believe me we were so eager to meet people who we only knew from the online message board and chats. So many, I knew from their creative works that I have admired on the gallery. We got to do a make and take from Lil' Davis. In the morning we were treated to danish and muffins. We cropped until it was time to get on the party bus. What is a party bus, you may ask! It is a school bus that has a DJ, black lights and bright colored lights in the floor and ceiling. People danced up and down the aisles. The bus was rockin' all the way to the recording studio where we recorded a Fiskateer parody of Boot Scootin' Boogie- written by our own Cherrie. She did a terrific job, but with our singing Brooks and Dunn have no worries.

When everyone returned door prizes were given out- left and right. Wow!!!!!! We cropped for a little while before it was the time to head out to the Nashville Palace where we learned to line dance to out own song. Meghan was named Fiskateer of the Year- and so deserving!!!!! She and her husband were so sweet.

We had a great dinner there and returned to the crop room at the hotel. We really did more talking, making friends and laughing that scrapbooking. I had so much fun talking with people . We truly were treated to Southern hospitality at its best.

I still have a sore throat from laughing so much. In the evening brownies and blondies came. We had water, soft drinks ( and Dr Pepper) and Red Bull.

This day was truly worth the 7 hour drive each way. I feel so blessed to have been able to make this trip.

25 years ago

This is a layout that should have been done 25 years ago. This photo was an accident. My niece saw my daughter smelling the flowers and picked up the disposable camera and took the shot. I had no idea until it was processed. This is my favorite photo of my daughter, Robin, ever. I made it into an 8 x 10 and did this layout while we were at the Fiskafriendzy. I used remaining letters from the kit that Wendy Jo gave us. Robin has bought a new house and moved from our home. Now, I am a victim of the empty nest syndrome. I absolutely love the layout. I journaled: There was a place in your childhood that I hoped you would become a wonderful, kind and independent adult. FAIRY TALES can come true.

New uses for Fiskars tools

When I first trained as an EMT ( 25 years ago) they said that many times when treating injuries "Use what you have". When scrapbooking, we can do that also. I have found 2 fiskars tools that have uses that you might not think about. It is a little late this year for the first one. You can use your Fiskars fingertip craft knife to carve pumpkins. a group of us had a pumpkin carving. party and discovered that the tool would cut right through.

The second is the leave it to weaver border punch. It is made to accomadate 3/8 inch ribbon. I learned that if you cut a 1 inch strip and go down one side- then turn it ove and go down it again, you can use 5/8 ribbon. It is so easy, because you can still use the marking and line up the paper.

We're going to Nashville

7 Fiskateers from The Scrapbook Page made the trip to Hershey. We had such a great time that 6 of us signed up for Nashville yesterday. We loved meeting other people who love scrapbooking and paper crafts as much as we do. I own the Scrapbook Page. I am a small lss, but the customers have become my friends and several are my second family. We made so many new friends via Fiskateers. We went knowing we would have fun, but it was beyond any expectations. Scrapbooking and chocolate- where is there a more perfect match? (Except for my friend Mary, who is allergic to chocolate.) Yesterday we had an election day crop here, but most of the day was making plans for Nashville. Watch out Nashville, we will be there soon!

My First Blog

I have to decided to blog the adventures of making memories. I got got back from an amazing trip to the Fiska-Friendzy in Hershey, Pa. I am have withdrawal from orange and chocolate. 7 of us had a great time meeting other Fiskateers, meeting Kathleen Reid (author of A Page Out of Life), and winning more and more prizes. We also had a trip to Hershey Chocolate World and an amazing historial trolley tour around the city. I didn't realize that the history of the township would be so great. That night we were treated to a Chocolate Sensation fountain. We cropped until midnight and the prizes kept coming until we walked out the door. Wendy Jo, Fiskars, and Brains on Fire made this a day to remember. We drove 7 1/2 each way and it was worth the effort.
